we ended up migrating the gerrit instance on amazon to a bigger and stronger env,
with 30GB, 8 cores and more network, so performance in overall is much better now.

we are running git-exprol nightly which for now suffice and performance is quite well.
keeping this for tracking if we'll need another improvement.

another possibility that might improve performances is to add a swap file(currently none is configured)

in the slide above(given at 01/2016), there are some tips on how to improve gerrit performance, mainly with different threads configurations(sshd) and JVM heap size.
in a time gerrit isn't over-loaded, an attempt to tweak the performances can be made.
